Bristol's 'Got It Covered' with safe sex campaign
A coalition of Bristol businesses and organisations - ranging from bars and nightclubs to beauty salons and taxi firms - are getting behind a campaign to encourage young people in the city to take greater care of their sexual health.
Throughout the first two weeks of March, Got It Covered will promote condom carrying around the city. Through activity in a range of locations from bars to beauty salons, young people are being encouraged to consider carrying condoms as a precaution during the key stages of nights out - from getting ready, during the night out itself, and returning home.
A coalition of 35 local businesses and organisations has given its backing to the campaign, including:
- A chain of hair salons offering an on-site hair refresh to clubbers carrying condoms on their night out
- City centre bars distributing specially designed condoms to party goers
- Several night clubs running a queue jump promotion for 'clubbers with rubbers'
- A taxi firm tackling unpreparedness by making condoms available after 10.30pm
- Football favourites Bristol City and Bristol Rovers backing the distribution of condoms in replica kit packaging
- Universities and a college making condoms available to students

Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: Can I jump the queue at my favourite club if I have a condom?
- A: Selected venues in both cities are offering Queue Jump to clubbers with rubbers – check out the full list on the homepage.
- Q: Do I need a specific brand or type of condom to be eligible for Queue Jump or Go Glam?
- A: No, as long as you're carrying a condom (still in its wrapper please!) you qualify for these great promotions.
- Q: Where can I get a condom?
- A: Condoms will be available in a range of bars, hair & beauty salons, pubs, taxis and night-time street stalls in both Liverpool and Bristol on the 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th of March. Check out the homepage for a full list of all participating venues. Remember, condoms are always available through your local NHS services and Brook centres.
- Q: Do I have to pay for a condom?
- A: Nope! Got it Covered condoms are available free of charge.
- Q: Are condoms really necessary?
- A: Yes. Condoms offer the best protection possible against Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). Although contraception protects against an unintended pregnancy, condoms, when used with other contraceptive means, afford you and your partner the best protection.
- Q: Why are you coming to Bristol/Liverpool?
- A: The campaign acts as a useful test bed for activity that could influence condom distribution at health authorities across the country. Both areas were selected because they are big cities with a large population of young adults.
- Q: I'm away those weekends – will you be coming back?
- A: At present, the first two weekends in March are our only planned visits. However the results of the activity will be independently evaluated and could be used to influence future work in Liverpool/Bristol and elsewhere. Wherever you are and whenever it is, make sure you've Got it Covered and always carry a condom.
- Q: I'd like to find out more about sexual health – where can I go for info and advice?
- A: There's a list of local services on the Local Sexual Health Services section of this microsite.
